Hackers Briefly Compromise CoinMarketCap’s Homepage – Is It Safe Now?
CoinMarketCap's homepage was temporarily hijacked on June 20, 2025, displaying a malicious pop-up urging users to verify their wallets. The platform's security team resolved the breach within hours, tracing it to a compromised third-party service.
Investigators identified the attack vector as a doodle image embedded on the homepage. The image contained a malicious LINK triggering unauthorized JavaScript code. "This doodle image contained a LINK that triggered malicious code through an API call," CoinMarketCap stated in its incident report.
Security analysts confirmed the wallet verification prompt was fraudulent, designed to compromise users' digital assets. The breach highlights persistent vulnerabilities in crypto infrastructure, particularly through third-party integrations.
